SpinLaunch is a spaceflight technology development company working on mass accelerator technology to move payloads to space.[4] As of January 2020, the company has raised US$80 million in funding, with investors including Kleiner Perkins, Google Ventures, Airbus Ventures, Catapult Ventures, Lauder Partners, John Doerr and Byers Family.[5]

History

SpinLaunch was founded in 2014 by Jonathan Yaney in Sunnyvale, California. The company's current headquarters are in Long Beach, California.[6] In 2020, SpinLaunch continues development of its 140,000 square-foot (13,000 sq. meter) corporate headquarters in Long Beach, and of its flight test facility at Spaceport America in New Mexico (leased in 2019).[7]

Technology

SpinLaunch is developing a kinetic energy space launch system that reduces dependency on traditional chemical rockets, with the goal of significantly lowering the cost of access to space while increasing the frequency of launch. The technology uses a centrifuge to store energy and will then rapidly transfer that energy into a catapult to send a payload to space at up to 4,800 kilometres per hour (3,000 mph). If successful, the acceleration concept is projected to be both lower cost and to use much less power, with the price of a single space launch reduced to under US$500,000.[8] The speed required to maintain Low Earth orbit is 27,000 kilometres per hour (17,000 mph).

Isso ocorre porque há muitos padrões no mercado. Existe uma equivalência aproximada entre elas, mas as usuais estão em Polegadas Inglesas x BWG, JP x LPP e ainda o padrão métrico oficial, mm x mm. Entenda o que significam estas siglas: Polegadas Inglesas: multiplique o número correspondente por 25,4 para ter o comprimento em mm. BWG (Birmingham Wire Gauge) e JP (Jauge de Paris): são tabelas próprias que indicam o diâmetro do prego. LPP (Linhas Por Polegadas Portuguesas): multiplique o número correspondente por 2,3 para ter o comprimento em mm.     Hoje assisti a um filme chamado REPOMAN - O Resgate de órgãos ou REPOSSESSION. Esse filme é de 2010 e engraçado como já fazem 4 anos, alguém me disse que precisava assistir a esse filme.... Independente das críticas positivas ou negativas, da trama um tanto previsível, e da falto de alguns artifícios hollywoodianos típicos, o que mais me chamou atenção e me fez não parar de pensar nesse filme (até o ponto de escrever esse blog depois de tanto tempo... :) é o fato da FRAGILIDADE HUMANA!  Como somos frágeis!
