As a kid I used to like summer homework — did I really? Well, I like to think of my young me as a disciplined student with perfect calligraphy after a long summer of practice. Some habits can’t be lost and, this summer around, I spent some time trying to better understand Gen Z.
‘Gen What?’
iGen, Tech Gen, Digital Natives, True Gen, Post-Millenials, Memelords, LitGen, Memennials, Generation Snap, the Hopeful Generation, the Anxious Generation, Generation Fix-It, the Cleaner-Uppers, the Last Generation, the Final Generation… You name it.
The Sisu Generation[1] might be one of my faves, but let’s stick to Gen Z.
Gen Z refers to the people born from 1995 to 2010.
I’ve always thought that trying to give common characteristics to a bunch of very different people born in a particular point in time was dumb. Everyone is so different… However, there are some consumer trends that, on average, are common to certain generations.
Gen Z are true digital natives. From a very young age, they’ve been exposed to technology and the internet. The only phones they know are smartphones. Remember Nokia 3330? — Well, they’ve never had one. Maybe not even a BlackBerry. In some cultures, especially in China, mobile is their gateway to find anything they need. This translates into Gen Z being a hypercognitive generation, and therefore the best informed at any age. Collecting and cross-referencing information is their routine, as well as learning surfing the web and watching YouTube.

Why Brazil is the 6th largest economy in the world 29.12.2011 Economist and Lecturer Welinton Santos With a heated domestic market, the increased real purchasing power of Brazilians, improvement programs, income support and families with high economic vulnerability, taking millions of Brazilians out of poverty and the enjoying contribution of more than 31 million Brazilians who in last decade joined the middle class, the country has celebrated 19 new millionaires per day since 2007 with projections to continue until 2014, according to a report published by Forbes, and Brazil currently has 137,000 millionaires and 30 billionaires. Jerry Seinfeld's Productivity Secret Editor: When software developer Brad Isaac told us he had productivity advice from Jerry Seinfeld, we couldn't turn down the chance to hear more. Read on for the whole story from Brad. Years ago when Seinfeld was a new television show, Jerry Seinfeld was still a touring comic. At the time, I was hanging around clubs doing open mic nights and trying to learn the ropes. One night I was in the club where Seinfeld was working, and before he went on stage, I saw my chance. I had to ask Seinfeld if he had any tips for a young comic. What he told me was something that would benefit me a lifetime... He said the way to be a better comic was to create better jokes and the way to create better jokes was to write every day. But his advice was better than that. He had a gem of a leverage technique he used on himself and you can use it to motivate yourself—even when you don't feel like it. He revealed a unique calendar syste...
Jay-Z's Mercedes Maybach Exelero Price: $8 million Featured in his music video "Lost One," this car is truly one-of-a-kind . Made by Italian car company Stola, it was manufactured only once. It is said to be able to reach 218 mph and can go from 0-62 mph in 4.4 seconds. The Exelero, it would seem, is not one of Jay-Z's 99 problems. Jay Leno's McLaren F1 Price: $22 million Of all Leno's vehicles, the McLaren F1 is certainly one of the most impressive, if only for its price. There were only 106 made. Created by Formula One race-car designer Gordon Murray, the F1 is made of lightweight premium materials such as kevlar, carbon fiber, and titanium and is supposed to be one of the best supercars ever made. Tom Brady's Bugatti Veyron Price: $3 million Tom Brady has seven Super Bowl wins and a garage full of impressive cars that he might have a little more time to drive now that he's retiring from the NFL. Perhaps the most impressive i...
In Search of Lost Time by Marcel Proust Swann's Way, the first part of A la recherche de temps perdu, Marcel Proust's seven-part cycle, was published in 1913. In it, Proust introduces the themes that run through the entire work. The narrator recalls his childhood, aided by the famous madeleine; and describes M. Swann's passion for Odette. The work is incomparable. Edmund Wilson said "[Proust] has supplied for the first time in literature an equivalent in the full scale for the new theory of modern physics." Valentin Louis Georges Eugène Marcel Proust was a French novelist, critic, and essayist who wrote the monumental novel In Search of Lost Time, originally published in French in seven volumes between 1913 and 1927. He is considered by critics and writers to be one of the most influential authors of the 20th century. Famous Quotes: * If a little dreaming is dangerous, the cure for it is not to dream less but to dream more, to dream all the time. * T...
